Services
I work in English (American, British and Irish), and read French for translation revision. Every project starts with a look at a sample, so I can tell you what the text needs and quote a fee and a deadline.
Translation revision
I compare an English translation with the French original, sentence by sentence. I correct mistranslations, restore nuance that was lost, and make sure terms are translated the same way throughout. Then I edit the English so that it reads naturally. Queries about genuinely ambiguous passages go to the author or translator rather than being guessed at.
Policy and think-tank publications
Reports, policy briefs, newsletters and essay collections. I edit for clarity, consistency and house style, check that figures, names and dates agree across the text, and flag claims that need a source. I’m used to tight publication schedules and to working with authors who write in English as a second language.
Scholarly editing
Copyediting of journal articles, edited volumes and monographs in the humanities and social sciences, including history, international relations, education, literature, and China and East Asia. I format and verify references in Chicago, APA, MLA and Harvard styles, or a journal’s own variant.
Business and teaching cases
Business cases and teaching notes, edited to the publisher’s style, with exhibits, figures and footnotes checked against the text.
How I work
- You send the text, or a sample of it, with your deadline and any style guide.
- I reply with a fee, a delivery date and any questions.
- I edit with tracked changes in Word, with comments for queries to the author.
- I deliver on the agreed date, and answer follow-up questions on the edit at no charge.
A note on AI
I use software, including AI tools, for routine checks such as consistency and reference formatting. Every change in your text is made or approved by me, and I don’t put confidential material into tools that would retain it.
Draft: decide whether to say you don't take student theses or dissertations.
