David MulrooneyEditor and translation reviser

Careful editing for texts that carry an institution's name.

I edit policy reports, scholarly articles and books, and I check English translations line by line against the original. My clients are think tanks, journals, publishers and foundations that need an experienced editor to take responsibility for the final text.

Ask about a project

French original

La Chine n'entend pas renoncer à ses ambitions technologiques.

Draft translation

China does not hear to renounce its technological ambitions.

Revised

China does not hear to renounce intend to give up its technological ambitions.

Entendre here means “to intend”, not “to hear”. A fluent draft can still say something the author never meant; comparing it with the original catches that.

What I edit

Translation revision

English translations checked against the French original for accuracy, nuance and tone, then edited to read as if written in English.

Policy and think-tank publications

Reports, briefs, newsletters and edited volumes, kept consistent with house style and ready for publication under your name.

Scholarly articles and books

Copyediting for journals and presses in the humanities and social sciences, including reference checking in Chicago, APA, MLA and Harvard styles.

Business and teaching cases

Cases and teaching notes edited for clarity and checked for consistency of figures, names and sources.
