About
Draft built from the old Vienna Editing biography, for David to rewrite in his own words.
I’m David Mulrooney, an Irish editor based in Vienna. I took a first-class degree in English at Trinity College Dublin and a PhD in English at Harvard, where I held the English Prize Fellowship and received several Certificates of Excellence in Teaching from the Derek Bok Center. I also studied at Boston College as a Fulbright scholar, and at Tsinghua University in Beijing on a China Scholarship Council scholarship.
From 2011 to 2014 I was a research fellow at the Institute for Security and Development Policy, a Swedish think tank, working from Beijing. Much of that work was editing: preparing colleagues’ research for publication in English. I have worked as an independent editor since 2019, for think tanks, journals, university presses, foundations and publishers.
I also supervise and examine research dissertations for the Professional Master of Education programme at Hibernia College in Ireland, which keeps me close to how academic writing is taught and assessed.
